In a recent article on the NY Times website,“One Number to Ring Them All”by David Pogue introduces us all the new horizon of telephone conversations. Google Voice goes beyond just the mobile phone to unify all our various forms “telephone” communication.
Now when someone calls you can specific which phone rings and the message that they hear. However, the major breakthrough in my mind is the automatic transcription of voicemail. Other features include:
- Call screening
- Listening in to voicemails as they are recorded
- Block calls
- Send, receive, and archive your text messages
- Place calls within the US for free
- Phone routing
- Forwarding call to any of your phones
So I guess, this means you can plug in those home phones again, the internet (and by that I mean google) has given them a new relevance. And besides they’re still better looking than mobile phones.
